BSNL issues warning against 'misleading' ISD missed calls

Subscribers to BSNL's mobile services should take a note of this. A Telecom Talk report confirms that scores of BSNL subscribers are complaining of receiving missed calls from dubious looking ISD numbers, and on calling back are being charged a whopping Rs.50/ minute. In a statement provided to this website, BSNL have confirmed that users have been receiving missed calls, especially from numbers starting with - +263xxxx and +960xxxxx. The report further suggests that users mostly in the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu telecom circles have been facing this issue. Users have no choice, but to stay aware of instances like these, and not call back on the numbers, unless they're sure.
Those following our reports closely, would know that this is not the first time such an incident has occured. Early last month, Vodafone subscribers, especially the ones based in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Uttar Pradesh (East and West) telecom circles had complained of receiving missed calls from dubious looking ISD numbers, like +22455xxxxx and were charged Rs.45/minute, if they called back. Airtel users, too, had complained of a similar incident before this, wherein users complained of receiving missed calls from numbers starting with +92.

The number of such instances seem to be rising with each passing month, with unsuspecting users falling prey to such tricks. Being aware, at the moment seems to be the only way out, at least till officials look into the matter and resolve it.
